Zebras
Das Wandbild mit den Zebras im Stadtteil Vake stammt vom Berliner Künstler Snyder, der in seinen Murals häufig bedrohte Wildtiere darstellt. Das Zebra nimmt dabei eine besondere Rolle ein:
The Berlin Zebra, like its counterpart the Berlin Bear, is wild and free and cannot be tamed. It shows us that freedom breeds diversity and that lived freedom is colourful rather than black and white. We must all accept, protect, support, and particularly cherish freedom. Freedom for all also requires thoughtfulness, tolerance, and consideration from everyone who wants to be free. Therefore, all living beings that embrace our freedom deserve an untouchable place in their freedom.
Snyder
Für Snyder ist das Zebra ein Symbol für Freiheit und Vielfalt, für eine ungezähmte, bunte und tolerante Gesellschaft. Es ist vielleicht kein Zufall, dass sich das Mural ist nicht weit vom Tbilisser Zoo befindet, in welchem 2015 bei einer großen Flutkatastrophe zahlreiche Wildtiere umgekommen sind.
Mit seinem Mural hat Snyder zum einen ein Stück Berlin nach Tbilissi gebracht, zum anderen ein Zeichen gesetzt, das Mut macht: für ein freies, vielfältiges Miteinander und für mehr Verantwortung im Umgang mit Tieren und Natur.
