Medea
One of the oldest Greek myths tells of the voyage of the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece and of the love story between the Greek hero Jason and Medea, the princess of Colchis.
Medea - from whose name the word "medicine" is derived - was the daughter of King Aeëtes of Colchis. He was considered a direct descendant of the sun god Helios, under whose protection he ruled the sunlit plains in the south of the Caucasus. In academic research, based on the Argonautica, the possible existence of a healing herb garden, the so-called "Garden of Hecate," in the Colchian lowlands is discussed. It is suggested that around 40 medicinal plants may have been cultivated there in the 14th-13th century BCE.

Jahrhundert v. Chr. etwa 40 Heilpflanzen kultiviert worden sein.

Medea was a powerful sorceress and princess of Kolchis. Beyond her command over the arcane, she is historically recognized as an archetypal figure in the development of medicine. Her expertise in the natural world and her mastery of alchemy established her as a legendary precursor to the medical practitioner.
